Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Practical Perinatal! This website is designed to help individuals, families, and communities find ways to better understand and work through challenges and uncertainties that come up during the perinatal period (beginning the moment when a person decides they want to expand their family to the child’s first birthday).

The main part of this site focuses on providing short educational videos addressing common perinatal issues. Each video comes with a worksheet or a series of questions to help you and your support system address the issue discussed in the video. Think of them as mini-birthing classes focused on preparing your mind and community in the same way that traditional birthing classes focus on preparing your body!

In general, my philosophy is take what works and leave what doesn’t. There is no one solution, one conversation, one intervention that will work for every single person all of the time. Every person, every family, every baby is different. You are the expert on you and your world. You decide what is right for you and your family.

While I am a licensed and practicing therapist, Practical Perinatal does not constitute therapy, therapeutic treatment, or clinical recommendations. I am not providing mental health advice, guidance, or treatments. I am here to provide information, exercises, and resources to help you in areas that I have encountered most frequently. If you are concerned about your physical or mental health, please reach out to your medical care provider, mental health team, or connect with some of the resources I have listed.

So, welcome. I hope wherever you are in your journey that this site can help you feel a little more grounded, a little more confident, as you embrace this big change.
